The Board of Football Federation Tasmania (FFT) is delighted to announce the appointment of Matt Bulkeley as the new Chief Executive Officer (CEO), securing one of the best and brightest sports administrators in the country to carry the organisation forward.
Mr Bulkeley has more than two decades of experience in sports administration, including eight years with Football Federation Australia (FFA), as both the Head of Game Development and the National Participation Manager.
He brings a reliable track record of delivering strong participation growth in multiple sports across a variety of established and emerging markets, having occupied leadership roles with three major national sporting organisations in Australia.
Announcing the appointment, FFT President Bob Gordon said Mr Bulkeley’s experience, track record, and industry knowledge stood him apart from what was a strong field of applicants, following an exhaustive national search.
“Matt’s strong leadership skills, experience, and deep knowledge of football at all levels in Australia make the appointment a great win for the game in Tasmania and its 14,000 plus participants across the state,” Mr Gordon said.
“The Board received a large number of high caliber applications for the position but following an extensive process, we firmly believe Matt is the right person to lead the game forward in Tasmania.”
In his time as the Head of Game Development at FFA, Bulkeley played a lead role in the implementation of all aspects of the National Football Curriculum as well as the National Club Accreditation Scheme. Over the course of his tenure, Bulkeley achieved an overall membership growth of 10 per cent, including a 35 per cent spike in female participation, an area Mr Gordon stated was a major focus for FFT.
“As an organisation, we’re focused on continuing to grow participation numbers at all levels of the game, regardless of age, gender or ability and we think Matt will be a major asset in helping drive that growth,” Mr Gordon said
“Of course, with added growth comes the need to provide extra facilities so that people all across the state can enjoy the game they love.”
In addition to his significant time spent working at FFA, Bulkeley has held leadership roles within Cricket Australia, Australian Sailing and will come to FFT following a three years stint as COO of Life Education NSW.
Mr Bulkeley will begin his tenure as CEO when he takes up the role officially on Monday 27 August. Michael Mcintyre will remain as the Acting CEO until that time.
Mr Gordon paid credit to Mr McIntyre for his efforts following Mike Palmer’s resignation earlier this season.
“Michael has done a fantastic job in the interim and the stability he provided was invaluable in allowing us the time to conduct such a thorough search. We thank him for going above and beyond this season, in managing the CEO duties whilst also fulfilling his regular role as Finance Officer.
