Football Tasmania has thrown its support behind the Federal Government’s COVIDSafe tracing app.
FT CEO Matt Bulkeley said a strong uptake of the COVIDSafe app could help fast-track the safe return of football to Tasmania.
“Football Tasmania’s number one priority is the health and wellbeing of our players, referees, volunteers and broader football community,” Mr Bulkeley said.
“We are itching to get football back onto Tasmania’s pitches so that the 38,000 strong football community can again enjoy the enormous health and social benefits of grassroots sport – but only once we know it’s safe to do so.
“Football Tasmania is currently working closely with Government and Football Federation Australia to establish and implement measures which will pave the way for the safe resumption of community football.
“It’s not a small task, but with the support and co-operation of the football community, we are confident of seeing football in the coming months.
“We see COVIDSafe as another piece of the puzzle to seeing football return to Tasmania, and encourage all Tasmanians – whether part of the football community or not, to embrace the initiative.”
