Football Tasmania welcomes the sport-related announcement today from the Premier, Peter Gutwein and Minister for Sport & Recreation, Jane Howlett. The commitment to continue and expand a number of policies if re-elected is a positive outcome for the football and broader sporting community.
FT CEO Matt Bulkeley said ‘a continuation and expansion of Ticket to Play will help ensure more Tasmanian children and young people can play the states most popular team sport. Since its inception football has experienced the highest update of Ticket to Play vouchers for registered club players and we would expect this to continue in 2021 and beyond.’
‘An increase to the Improving the Playing Field scheme is also welcome as we know that a number of our clubs previously missed out on what remain important projects. The quality and quantity of football facilities continues to be a challenge in terms of accommodating our growth, especially for girls and women who represent 28% of our participants – the highest proportion of anywhere in the country.’
He added that ‘we were delighted with the announcement of $10 million for FIFA Women’s World Cup training and base camp facilities made last week and this commitment today will help other facilities also identified in our overarching Facility Priority List’.
