Two rising stars of the Tasmanian referee ranks, Toby Butler and Claire Green are representing Tasmanian Refereeing at the Kanga Cup this week. The Kanga Cup is a week-long international youth football tournament held annually in Canberra. It brings together youth teams from all over the world and that also goes for the match officials.
The focus is on developing their decision making and match management skills in a tournament environment. To aid in this development, a team of referee coaches will be working with the referees at the tournament under a structured program in line with the FFA Level 3 curriculum.
FFT Referees Manager Tony Peart said the opportunity to attend the Kanga Cup was a deserved reward for their efforts.
“Both Claire and Toby have progressed nicely with their development this season and their hard work has been rewarded by being selected for this tournament. It’s a fantastic opportunity for them and I am sure they will acquit themselves well at the tournament.”
“This selection comes on the back of increased recognition on a national and international stage for the quality work done by our local officials.”
“Attending these international tournaments such as the Kanga Cup is just one of the opportunities that refereeing can provide, I would encourage anyone interested in taking up the whistle to join in one of our upcoming courses and see it where it might take you.”
