Skill Acquisition Program 2017
What is SAP? The Skill Acquisition Program (SAP) is a Football Federation Australia (FFA) initiative that is run nationwide for young football players (boys and girls) between the ages of 9 – 13 who wish to dedicate time to perfect and accelerate their football skill development. These age groups are universally acknowledged to be the optimal mental and physical phase in which children are able to learn motor skills. At this age, football is about getting better and having fun. The Skill Acquisition Program ensures our youngest footballers are doing just that.
The Nelson SAP is open to the following age players:
Boys born in 2008, 2007, 2006, 2005.
Girls born in 2008, 2007, 2006, 2005, 2004.
Training is held twice weekly for SAP participants across 36 weeks of the year (semester 1 schedule attached). Nelson SAP is conducted in 4 x 9 week semesters at the end of each semester participants will play in a SAP festival against other SAP squads. Weeks 1 – 4 and 6 – 9 will be based on Model Sessions from the FFA National Curriculum (link below). Week 5 of each cycle will focus on other football events which may include games against other SAP programs, visiting NTC training, watching DVDs of top level matches etc. These 9 week semesters are based around school terms. > http://www.footballaustralia.com.au/site/_content/document/FFA_National_Curriculum.pdf
SAP Training follows a game-centred approach. The emphasis is on the players making decisions within the game, rather than the coach telling the players where to run and who to kick to. The coach becomes more of a facilitator, creating situations where players have to find solutions for themselves (i.e. problem solving). Independent thinking and self-reliance in the player are desired outcomes. The approach also assists in developing skills in areas such as communication, leadership and teamwork.
Functional skill development at Nelson ESFC focuses on the FFA curriculum. This approach gives players the best opportunity of being selected in representative teams as well as following world’s best practice in coaching.
Training is held at Edgeworth Street Oval, Warrane
Tuesday 4:45pm – 6pm
Thursday 4:45pm – 6pm
All our coaches hold FFA coaching qualifications and are on the approved Working with Children register. The program’s Technical Director is Michelle Castle. A former FFA Coach of the Year, Michelle is a highly experienced and credentialed coach. She has primarily worked with junior and youth players on the Eastern Shore and has developed strong links with the junior clubs affiliated with the Eastern Region Junior Soccer Association.
Nelson Eastern Suburbs FC believes that football should be accessible to all and has a policy of keeping youth fees as low as is sustainable. We consistently have the lowest fees of any of the Eastern Shore clubs. The SAP program operates under this policy.
The SAP program costs:
$160 per term (full-time)
$100 per term (part-time)
These fees are payable upfront and include ground hire, equipment and coaching. Uniform items are purchased separately. We are currently seeking a sponsor to help defray the costs to allow us to offer the program at a reduced rate. We offer family discounts.
Football for All
Our philosophy is to give all players an equal opportunity to play and to gain a wide experience of “The World Game”. As such all players are given the opportunity to play in a number of different positions and fulfil a number of different roles within teams. Any keen player is welcome to join Nelson SAP regardless of their ability. We do not hold selections for this program.
Pre-registration is essential. If you are interested in joining the Nelson SAP or would like to come along and try a session please send the player’s name, date of birth, parent’s name and mobile number to email@example.com.
Nelson Eastern Suburbs Football Club was established in 1977 and is based at North Warrane Oval in Bounty Street, Warrane. We are an Eastern Shore club that believes that everyone wishing to play football should have the opportunity to participate. The emphasis is on possession football, playing with style and enjoying it. In additional to fielding senior teams in men’s and women’s Southern Championship, we field teams in all youth age groups from under 11 upwards for both boys and girls.
