Become a Referee

If you want to become a referee or what to learn more about the game and the Laws of the Game then this course is for you.

To undertake the course you must complete the following prerequisites:

This training program is aimed at match officials officiating in junior and youth matches.

The program consists of theory modules, practical sessions and practical mentoring in matches as a referee and assistant referee. Upon completion of all components referees will be officially qualified as a Level 4 Referee. The qualification is valid for a period of up to 4 years.

Online Laws of the Game Certificate


Football Federation Australia, in association with Football West, has developed an online Laws of the Game Certificate.

This educational tool gives you interactive access to the Laws of the Game including videos, workbooks, exams, procedures, interpretations, additional information and details on how to become an officially accredited referee.

This is a FREE online training module which provides a basic introduction to the Laws of the Game and their interpretations. Successful candidates will receive a certificate identifying they have demonstrated awareness in the Laws of the Game, and have the necessary knowledge to complete subsequent refereeing events.

FFT will conduct Level 4 Referee Courses, beginning in February across the state. Participants MUST complete the Laws of the Game certificate online (see above) before registering.
